Remos have been the best heads in my career. Tried many. Prefer Remo Clear Pin Stripes on my Toms.

For me Remo Ambassadors do the job fine on the toms, But I'm pretty picky with bass drums and snare, I only use Aquaurian Superkick & Aquarian Hi-Energy. I think coated heads certainly lack the attack I require.

I've mostly used clear heads. But my first kit had coated, and I'm thinking of going back.
hi there in answer to your question i use coated they give much more warmth when played clear was too punchy.

I used Remo Black dots when I first began playing in 1977. But switched to Evans Hydraulics in the mid 1980's through 2005. I switched to Aquarian coated heads in 2005 because I became tired of having the snare drum head pull out during the seating process and the 12" head go flat the day after seating and playing.
I love the sound I get from the Aquarian coated heads. I put Attack heads on my nephew's cheap kit and it sounded very warm and mellow.

I've been going with Remo Pinstripe since I started, switched to Aqauarians for a bit, but really love the tone I get from th =e Pinstripe Clear. 12, 12, 13, 14 ,16, 18, and 2 22" Bass drums, I go with an Evans G2 Coated for my snare.

Personally, I use Aquarian Superkick II's for my bass drums and remove the inner felt ring and re adhere it with double sided tape. For toms, Evans EC2 coated for batter heads and the standard Remo Embassador head for the snare and the Evans Snare Side 300 for the bottom. Clear heads are too bright but everything has it's place, depending on the genre/sound you're looking to achieve.

I've used evans, remo, and others. but currently I favor the aquarians for my ludwig kit with a remo emperor X coated snare. The performance 2's on my toms sound amazing, nice tone with a warm attack and resonance. I like a punchy, thick snare with good response and the emperor X fits it very nicely..

Snare: Evans Reverse-Dot 13"
Toms: Evans EC-2 Clear 12", 14" and 16"
Kick: Evans EMAD-2 Clear, 22"

(Can you tell I'm trying to get endorsed? )

Great for Rock music. great attack and a shorter sustain for quick hits and tight triplets and quad rolls

I use Aquarian 2 low tune heads they take a beating. I like the loose tuning so as I am playing out as they stretch I can tune them during breaks and keep a good sound.

Remo white with black dot all the way around on my 5-piece. Always wanted that. Don't know why. But I got 'em now!
Only exception is the Bass Drum which has a YOB Logo head on the front & clear with black dot as the batter head so I can see to set the blanket correctly inside.

You can waste a lot of money experimenting with all the range in heads and different makers. Really depends on the drums and genre of music-like if you are using brushes a lot you really want a good coat to drag on, and depends on if it is a small venue or large venue, open or miked. I have a closet I keep different heads for different occassions. In my practice room I use evans clear hydraulic heads on my toms to help dampen the sound in a small room. But I may have a Remo snare head, Aquarian 16 in tom, Evans 10-14 in toms, then Evans bass and mix brands accordingly. That bugs some of my drummer friends crazy-like all the heads have to be the same brand or somethin'. Sheesh. I listen for sound-just like cymbals..

Evans Hydraulics - Blue. Started using them way, way back-in-the-day, and been a hard-core fan ever since! Wouldn't use anything else!!
