Coated? ...Clear? ...Black dot?

I've mostly used clear heads. But my first kit had coated, and I'm thinking of going back.

It depends a lot on the situation. I try to use the one above my shoulders as much as possable. But the other one has been know to drag me around some. :D

Attack heads are cheap for a 5 piece standard pac. The tone is ok and they are tough enough. I used them on all my kits. Not to say they are the best, just the best deal I could find in GC

I get the best sound out of batter heads. They have a jazzy sound but killer for rock n roll to metal to what ever! Good luck

I like Attack heads better than Remo. I used to use Evans, but Attacks cost much less, last and sound just as good on my drums, so I stick with Attacks.

I virtually always use Remo heads. I use ebony pinstripes on all my toms, a black dot as the impact head on my bass drums and regular ambassadors on my snare. I have tried Evans heads and they are great for the first 10-20 hours of play, then fall off radically. I have had 3 year old Remos tune and resonate better than 40 hour Evans. I have only tried Attack heads once and in that case, I didn't notice anything special for or against that particular head.

Aquarians only. They seem to really work with my drum (Sonor)...SuperKick II on both kick drums in each drumset. Use Response IIs on my Delites and Studio Xs on my 3500. Classic clear as resonant on all drums for both sets.

I second this specially with the Aquarian SK I,II,&III. Obviously the better made basses will naturally sound better with it, but it will freakin pound even on the cheapest ones and no additional muffling is needed.

I have always broken my tom heads in the middle of gigs, so for years now I've been using any double layer heads I can get my hands on, to include Remo Emperor-weight Black X's

I currently use Evans Genera G2 coated, however, I am switching to Acquarian Response 2. Great heads!

I've run the gambit over the past 30 years to include, silver dots, black dots, batter kings ambasadors, pin stripes, which I fell in love with up untill I put together a smaller gigging kit that exsists of an 18 bass 10 hi and 13 low. I needed a set of heads that had a natural low tone. I went to the local guitar center and spoke with the drum tech there. After a long period of "drummer talk" he recomended the Evans EC2s for the 10 &13 with clear reso heads tuned to the lowest possible tuning, and an 18 EMAD. They sound like they are already mixed when played with the rest of the band and they carry very well outside. I have not found that they do not last after 40 hours, in fact I have noticed that after tuning back up they still sound as good as the first strike. I may never go back to REMOs. Keep on bangin'!!

Currently a fan of Remo with Ambassador Coated on top tops and diplomat coated on bottom! (playing 70s pearls). Changing the bottom to coated made the biggest change for the better I've ever made. Make you feel warm and gooey inside ;) Various ambassador coateds on snares with a powerstroke on my 14x6 steel snare.

Aquarian Super Kick 1 on my 22" bass with an ambassador coated front head painted with my logo of the moment. Ambassador coated with a Remo muffle rim on my 18".

This set up has been my standard rig for rock/blues/jazz/funk gigs I've played. Typically changing batter heads once a year or so or when doing a major recording session.
