Drums with cylindrical shells can be open at one end (as is the case with timbales), or can have two drum heads. Single-headed drums normally consist of a skin which is stretched over an enclosed space, or over one of the ends of a hollow vessel.

Same as concert series toms, Pearl makes them as well. Some people used these instead of having top and bottom heads on toms, on their drumsets for years.

I dont use bottom heads on my mounted toms,it just sounds more dynamic without them. But i do use bottom heads on my floor toms, they sound more deep and have more bass. :D
