I think the best guitar is a Zagar. Once you play one your mouth will drop open and your fingers will say WOW. To bad they are not made anymore but I have one of the last ones ever made by Denny Zagar and the rest of my acoustics just sit idle.

I have an older 714 Taylor and have played that for many gig's. I tried out an older Ovation Adamas 1 guitar and now have my new go to guitar. I liked it so much I had the factory build be a new matching 12 string with modern electronics and they upgraded the electronics in my older Adamas for free.
Hard to say if this guitar is better than the Taylor? I don't think you can say it that way, once you get into this caliber of a guitar, they are all good guitars, each one is just different. You like them for their different characteristics. I still use the taylor and always will. Tried a 1970's Martin and although I thought it had more of a high end sound and not as much of the deep tones. It would make a great trio of different acoustic guitars for sure.
Enjoy what you play and play what you enjoy. To each his own.

The best guitar totally depends on you.
For me, its a Taylor. I remember going acoustic guitar shopping and really had my mind set on Takamine, mainly cause it was more around my price range. I played a Gibson, a Martin just for laughs, then I played a Taylor 214-CE. Wow, I was blown away by the sound that came from this amazing guitar. So bright and big. The clarity was awesome. The playability was so easy. I ended up purchasing the guitar for a little than a "G". A bit more than I wanted to spend but I am so happy I did because that Takamine I was eyeing doesnt even come close.
The best acoustic guitar totally depends on what you like personally. Go out and sample as few or as many as it takes to get that sound and feel you like.

no matter when or where I play my girlfriends old 1974 Yamaha f-100 folk guitar with Martin Silk and steel, veteran musicians, novices, and even people who are typically neutral about music feel compelled to tell me how fantastic is sounds. I have to agree. I take it for granted just how sweet it sounds until I try a new guild, gibson, taylor, alvarez, etc... and they just don't sound as perfectly balanced, full, warm and bright all at the same time like the old F-100. Granted with steel strings it does not sound even half as awesome. I've put silk and steel onother acoustics and again just not the same as they sound on the F-100. The Silk and steel strings just pair with the old Yamaha to really give it a sound I that's never been matched.

Have a Seagull CW ac/el, and an Ibanez Artwood ac/el. Seagull is solid spruce, and the Artwood is solid cedar, so I get the sound I need whatever the situation. I would say this, for the money, a well made Seagull can stand up to just about anything.

d-boy,

I am trying to get in touch with you about a band. Can you shoot me an email or message or something? I am hoping you are still on these forums or still check them out occassionally. I am very interested in speaking with you.

The best guitar is the one that you feel as you play, I play a Seagull and Ibanez 6 string acoustic but I also love the action and feel of my 12 string Yamaha. I have several different makes and models and have find that it is not always the expensive guitar I can get but the one that feels best to me. My Seagull is one the best I have played for a staight acoustic, no amp, no mic, it has a great warm resonation but also has a great action. The Ibanez has a great range for digital and amped preformances/recordings. It is the guitar that brings out the best of the musician playing it.

Bumping because of the stupid spammer!

My 73 Epiphone acoustic continues to be my 'go to' acoustic for recording. My Fender CD140SCE acoustic-electric is the go-to for live band work, and for quick recording without setting up mics. Love the cutaway for lead work, too.

33 YEARS AGO I BOUGHT A HOHNER HG-09 ACOUSTIC IT HAS NO ELECTRONICS BUILT IN AND TO POWER IT UP I USE A BILL LAWRENCE IN HOLE PICK-UP WITH GREAT RESULTS . THE TONE AND ACTION ARE THE BEST YOU COULD ASK FOR, AS TIGHT AS AN ELECTRIC,IT CAME WITH ADJUSTABLE BRIDGE SO SET UP IS SWEET. FINGERS, PICKS ,AND SLIDE IT RESPONDS TO ALL MY WISHES. TURNED DOWN A CHANCE TO TRADE FOR A BRAND NEW DOVE HE LIKED MINE BETTER, IT PLAYED LIKE A 2X4. HAS ANYONE ELSE PLAYED ONE I'VE LOOKED AND THERE'S NOT MANY OUT THERE.

Seagull Performer series from Godin has proved to be the best bang for the buck in my book time after time. Hand crafted in Canada, with high end tone woods, electronics and hardware. You just have to try one man, you will love it.

Best guitar i own, easily my Takamine TF740FS. I play fingerstyle, would say in the Michael Hedges category. I only strum if i have to, so this guitar gets used as it was intended, pure finger picking, but the bass lines, percussive strikes, tapping, harmonics, sustain are stellar. It has a wide nut(1 7/8"), what a dream for my fat fast fingers. The 12th fret meets the body. This guitar is loud(to me), yet with the cedar top is warm, i would say close to my concert classical in volume. Every string is even balanced, and stand proud from one another. This guitar has an angry, delicate, pretty growl(like my wife)...lol. The cool tube definitely adds a warmer tone, and the preamp has n input for a soundhole pup as well.

Best guitar(to me) i've played but i don't own, easily the Santa Cruz Baritone(Bob Brozman)...

As others have already posted, I think you have to put things in perspective and realize that guitars are basically purpose built and there are far too many variables involved to be able to proclaim any one guitar brand, make, or model "the best".

That said, I can only offer my opinions and share what I believe were or are my "favorites".

I kick my own ass every time I reminisce about my former guitars. My all time favorite though was my Guild D55 circa 1974. Wish I had that one back. I currently own and play a Takamine G series and a Rainsong OM1000 which I absolutely LOVE. The Rainsong weighs about 6 oz. and rings out like a piano! It's very "bright". I use the Tak for more colored tones.

Of course, YMMV and opinions are like you know what. Everyone has one. Well, except those who use colostomy bags.
