True Metal died in 1992, when Mtv pulled the plug on Metal and replaced it with the Lallapaloser Nation. Now Metal is nothing but a vehicle for extreme sports/ Fashion/ trend setting media people. Metal used to mean musicianship ( mastery of the instrument in an agressive manner), now it just been reduced to how many tattoos and piercings your have
, but I see musicianship is returning back to Metal and a rejection of "Fashion Metal"/ the pre-fabricated Rebellion created by Mtv.
The metal of today is just as good as the old metal.. Keeping an open mind and excepting change will keep everyone on the same page.. I think the new "metal core" is awesome..bands like Avenged sevenfold rip..There young guys respecting there roots and bringing the motley crue sound back...as for the tattoo part i wish i wasnt covered in them. because its such a dumb fashion fad now i think its more shocking to have none... And might even be cooler not to have them. But thats my opinion.

That band is a seriuos departure from the fashion Metal like Linkin Park or Korn.
Metal-Beast wrote::twisted: Heavy Metal has always dominated the rock scene from Black Sabbath. Megadeth & Metallica to Trivium, Slayer, & System Of A Down anyways The fads are being unleashed here in America and around the world with long hair, spikes and tattoos.. one of the metal laws are always party till we drop, make the loudest most obscene noise known to mankind, thats are jobs.. our destiny to become ruler of Metal Chaos in these twisted days we call modern, most metal or at least alot of metal is anti-christ or anti-authority.. whats being made nowadays is on a totally differant level. That's the true spirit of Metal !!!!!!...............I'm touchedWhether your pissed off or just plain sad metal has always got a mood for you, its not all about the words, the looks, its about the electric solos and jumping all over the stage spitting blood, puking and having a rush that you will remember for years to come.
AH A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART,I CANT STAND ALL THE WIMPY MUSIC OUT THERE PEOPLE JUST THINK METAL IS ALL NOISE AND NO SUBSTANCE BUT IF PEOPLE WHERE TO LISTEN TO BANDS LIKE SLAYER,OPETH, ETC AND ACTUALLY READ THE LYRICS INSTEAD OF PRE-JUDGING THEY WOULD SEE THAT EVEN THOUGH THE MUSIC IS DARK THESE BANDS HAVE ALOT TO SAY AND REVEAL THE WORLD FOR WHAT IT TRULY IS,A DARK, DARK PLACE BUT INTELLIGENTLY WRITTEN ABOUT SUBJECTS THAT MAINSTREAM BANDS WONT APPROACH AS THEY DONT HAVE THE INTELLECT OR BALLS TO SAY WHAT THEY THINK
there are still a lot of very talented musicians out there still pushing the envelope and making great metal. They are just so hard to find! You have to push through all the muck kind of like when you accidentally drop a ring or something in the garbage. Lately I've really fallen in love with Devin Townsend. He is an absolute genius in my opinion, and he makes brutal metal that is just...wow!
Read the lyrics? Not me. If I cant understand what you are saying I turn it off or walk out. Metal can and should be done with good communication skills. When I've got something to say I want to know you can understand the words that are coming out of my mouth.
If you combine metal with rap, it's distasteful.
Like chicken flavored toothpaste, it's for the dogs.

Somehow you metal musicians have to start producing music with intelligible lyrics. Somehow you have to maintain the power of the music but let the vocals be understood. If I have to read the lyrics then why bother having a vocalist? Maybe metal bands could have a big screen on-stage that has the lyrics scrolling on it while the band is performing, kind of like TV for the hearing impaired. Later...
I have to say that I thought "SLITHER" by Velvet Revolver was the closest thing to an "intelligent and intelligible metal I ever heard."
It sounds like metal and you can ever understand what Weiland is saying without a crib sheet.

Mick Jagger said that if you can understand the lyrics it isn't rock & roll...I disagree, of course.
What the hell is all this Slipknot-style growling about? It sounds like you're trying to frighten small children & kittens more than singing. I can't take the stuff seriously. For the most part, modern metal looks & sounds like a bad Rob Zombie movie, designed to disgust you even more than to frighten you or get you all fired up. Gutter-crap that belongs in the same category as gutter-rap...not serious music.
It isn't just the lack of distinguishable lyric content in modern metal, for me. There's also that annoying detuned sound - in some cases it actually sounds like all of the stringed instruments are tuned differently, or not at all...or they might as well be, for all the distortion that's used. I swear in some of this stuff I cannot distinguish one note from the other.
So I suppose you could say I'm not a big fan.

Distortion on the vocals is the biggest problem for me. Do it tastefully or don't do it at all.
