Just wondering if anyone would like to share locations; dates; times and a little information about open mic/jams.

I will start it off by listing a good one in the Durham Region of Ontario...

Thursdays 9pm-close
@ the Harp & Crown Pur 300 Kingston Rd., Pickering, ON L1V 6Y9 Phone: (905) 509-6565. "Roadhouse" is the host band; drums; bass; guitar and mutliple mics available. Style is rock/hard rock/blues. The band will back you up as required (if they are familiar with what you want to play).
Bring your own or use theirs. Great jam. The band plays a set then calls musicians up to perform 2-3 songs...depending on profficiency.

I've actually been out to check out Johnny B's. Gotta tell you its wall to wall men in there LOL.
Where are the friggin women musicians located and/or hiding out????

There are lots of open mics around. I've been checking them out regularly all summer long.

Carrigan Arms has a blues jam every Thrusday night hosted by James Anthony (also known as Mister Guitar). It use to be an accoustic jam but not enough people showed up.

The Carrigan Arms is on Upper Middle Road, just east of Brant Street in Burlington (in a little ugly strip plaza, lots of construction around it).

Chris and I showed up at the Carrigan Arms and met some friends for the jam. It was very good. James and his band did an opening set and then invited the other musicians and singers to come up on stage. There were a few "just learning" types, but also some very accomplished musicians with years of experience.

If you are on your own, don't worry, just let James know you are there and he will slot you in either with his band or with other musicians. It is always worthwhile playing with other musicians as you get to play songs you are not familar with or with different arrangements, and the crowd is very forgiving.

BTW, James is always looking for singers to join the Jam as they are few and far between.

I love open mics. A good site is Openmikes.org. But here in Seattle there are many open mics but only a very few that are worthy of play.

I went to an Irish Pub in Evanston. The leader was flat out Very Rude to me. I ask for his Famous CD and broke it in front of him and his followers.

To all the Open mics players out there... Keep a strong desire when it looks cloudy.

Peace,
Charles

Thanks for the info....Burlington is a bit of a hike for us from Ajax.

Found a few more local area jams that are pretty good out here too.

Sunday nights @ Rileys in Oshawa is hosting an open mic jam which originated from Chicagos. The house band is pretty good and lots of musicians show up. From every ability level. At times the jams get that magic feel when the musicians hit it right. They have a facebook page too that you can check out.

James Anthony is hosting a second jam in Burlington (Aldershot) on Wednesday nights at Leslie's Chaps, Plains Rd. So far it hasn't been as crowded as the jam at the Carrigan Arms, but then just about every Wednesday there has been a blizzard (man how I crave summer). Other than James, it is a different band from the Thursday night jam.

Thanks everyone...I've found quite a few more really good ones in and around the GTA here in Ontario.

In fact our band got booked at one open mic and that's the only way they do it. Go figure.

Here in western Canada (Alberta specificaly) there are quite a few places that have tons of Open Mics. Down in Lethbridge, I help out with the equipment and stage management that occurs every Thursday and then every Friday night consists of a band the pub hired to play that so you got 2 nights, back to back of live music.......it's awesome!!

I need a new place to jam. Two Wednesday night jams have closed in Burlington, and Thursday's jam is too crowded. Anyone have any leads?

Thanks
